The SCAR Food Systems Strategic Working Group (SCAR FS SWG) has developed a second draft of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of the future partnership Sustainable Partnership for People, Planet and Climate. The new draft takes into account input from the FS SWG members and relevant stakeholders.

Four European Partnerships are ramping up

Earlier this year, the European Commission asked all EU Member States, Associated Countries and Candidate Associated Countries for an indication of financial commitments to the four upcoming partnerships. Most countries responded with a wide interest. All four upcoming Horizon Europe Cluster 6 partnerships will have a corresponding topic in the Horizon Europe Work Programme 23/24, released by the end of this year.

AHW - A new secretariat for international research consortium “STAR-IDAZ”

The STAR-IDAZ International Research Consortium (IRC) on Animal Health includes four Regional Networks to facilitate regional coordination, with the AHW CWG operating as the European Network. The STAR-IDAZ now has a new secretariat: SIRCAH2. SIRCAH2 began on 1 October 2022 and will continue supporting STAR-IDAZ IRC for 4,5 years with funding from the European Commission. ARCH – Combatting imported deforestation

Earlier this year, SCAR ARCH SWG and SCAR FOREST SWG published a joint policy brief: “Combatting imported deforestation – challenges for science”. The document is the result of a fruitful collaboration between both the SCAR ARCH SWG and the SCAR FOREST SWG.

The goal of the document is to better address deforestation and forest degradation. Both are triggered throughout the world by European imports of commodities (raw materials, food, timbers, etc.).

AKIS – Focussing on education and training

AKIS

On 20 and 21 June 2022, the SCAR AKIS SWG met in Lugo, Spain, for their 12th meeting. The meeting further expanded upon the previous meeting. It focused mainly on education and on training of advisors, digital training and social innovation.

The meeting contributed to the Seminar on Extension and Education with a discussion on three dimensions of advisory training: technical know-how, process know-how and structural know-how, all of which can be found in the meeting report.
