Thursday 23 April 2026

23april_AHWDriving the Future of Animal Health & Welfare in Tallinn!

The recent SCAR Animal Health & Welfare (AH&W) Working Group meeting in Tallinn on 23rd April. With over 50 participants joining the meeting both in person and online, the energy and engagement was truly inspiring. The group delved into critical scientific contributions that are shaping the future of the industry, including:

✅ Policy Impact: Meaningful discussions on animal welfare policy in Europe.
✅ Crisis Management: Insightful findings from the RefreSCAR study on risk communication during disease outbreaks by Tiina Kauppinen and Satu Raussi
✅ Climate Resilience: Another RefreSCAR study providing a vital look at how climate change is expected to affect AHW in the coming years.

The group also received essential updates on key initiatives including EUPAHW, Discontools, and STAR IDAZ International Research Consortium on Animal Health, ensuring they stay aligned on global research and diagnostic priorities.

It was an intense few days, but the value of these face-to-face (and screen-to-screen!) collaborations is unmatched. The SCAR AH&W group would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to these vital conversations.
